Cleveleys
straight across the road
Equinox House sits on the seafront, so the beach is across the promenade and the town centre is a few minutes on foot. Most guests leave the car parked for the week.
Getting around
Everything in Cleveleys is walkable from the house. The tram stops a few minutes away and runs the length of the coast in both directions.
On the doorstep
Miles of flat, sandy beach and a promenade that runs for miles in both directions. Good at any tide, and good for the dog.
Worth knowing
The town centre has the everyday essentials, so you can arrive without a full car boot and pick things up when you get here.
Bispham
the cliffs and the old village
The next stop south, where the flat promenade gives way to low cliffs looking back over the bay. An easy walk down the prom if you would rather not drive.
Getting around
The tram stops at Bispham, and it is a straightforward walk or cycle south along the promenade from Cleveleys.
What's there
The cliff top walk and the views back along the coast. The old village sits up behind the seafront, away from the prom.
Worth knowing
A good halfway point if you are walking into Blackpool rather than taking the tram the whole way.
Fleetwood
the ferry and the market
North along the coast, where the Wyre meets the sea. An old fishing port that is markedly quieter than Blackpool and makes for an easy afternoon.
Getting around
The tram runs all the way to the Fleetwood terminus, so you can go up and back without the car.
What's there
The market, the seafront and the little passenger ferry across the estuary to Knott End.
Worth knowing
The ferry runs to a tide-dependent timetable, so check before you set off if it is the reason you are going.
Poulton-le-Fylde
the market town inland
Inland at the head of the Wyre, and the nearest railway station to the house. Worth stopping in for its own sake rather than only passing through.
Getting around
Poulton is the closest station and about ten minutes away by taxi. Blackpool North is a little further but has more services.
What's there
A cobbled market square with the old church at the centre, and somewhere to eat without the seafront crowds.
Worth knowing
The most useful option if guests are arriving by train rather than driving.
Blackpool
close enough, far enough
The Tower, the piers and the Pleasure Beach. Near enough for an evening out and far enough that you can leave it behind afterwards.
Getting around
The tram is easier than driving and drops you on the seafront. Parking in town is harder work, especially in season.
What's there
The Tower, the Winter Gardens, three piers and the Pleasure Beach, all within reach of the promenade.
Worth knowing
The Illuminations run through autumn and are worth timing a visit around. The seafront gets busy on those evenings.
Lytham & St Anne's
the gentler end of the coast
South past Blackpool, where the coast slows down again. St Anne's has the pier and the dunes; Lytham has the green, the windmill and a slower high street.
Getting around
Easiest by car, and about half an hour down the coast. Both towns are small enough to walk once you arrive.
What's there
Lytham Green and the windmill, St Anne's pier, the dunes, and a quieter stretch of sand than you get further north.
Worth knowing
The best direction to go for lunch and an afternoon if you want the coast without the amusements.
